Meet the Artist

My name is Stephanie Pollock, and I am a former elementary school art teacher, an artist with a focus on painting, a mother to 2 energetic young boys, and a lifelong animal lover. I have a Masters in Art Education from Towson University and the theme of painting dogs started with a painting class I took in an undergrad painting class. I decided to paint a portrait of my wonderful soft-coated wheaten terrier at the time, Brody, for an assignment on layered painting techniques and texture. The final product made me laugh each time I looked at it because I felt like I captured the very goofy nature of the pup I loved so much.
Brody was my inspiration for many different projects from that day forth ranging from ceramic Brody mugs, to a "Wonderful Wheaten" picture book, to painted aprons & tote bags with his image on it, and many ceramic figurines in his likeness. While Brody is now a little angel pup in doggy Heaven, he is still considered a co-founder for Paint My Paws.
My husband and I have 2 incredible mixed breed pups from hardworking volunteer-based rescue organizations, K9Lifesavers k-9lifesavers.org and Paws and Claws, New England www.facebook.com/PawsClawsNewEngland/ . They love to hang out in my studio with me while I create different works of art. Millie and Trotter bring about even deeper appreciation for the importance animals have in human lives.
Pet portraits have a wonderfully charming, enlightening, and personalized quality to them and I enjoy giving people the chance to experience that.

Photographs of your Pets
Sometimes people think the best photographs make the best paintings. I believe if you have a beautiful photo of your animal, frame the photo! Photographs that work best for a painted pet portrait are crisp, clear, quality photo's that highlight your pet's favorite physical qualities. Maybe it's a particular look your pet gives, or his/her favorite pose. The better quality the photo, the better I can capture the animals characteristics.
Multiple photo's can also be helpful. If you have a photo of the pose and angle you'd like your animal to be painted in, but his eyes have a glare, find a second photo where the eyes can be seen clearly. The photo with the "good eyes" can be painted in to your painting to make sure it looks like your animal.
Photograph's can be emailed in electronic format or mailed postal format, whatever is easier for you.

Turn-Around Time
Quality artwork takes time, so plan ahead! If there is a specific upcoming date you need a painting completed by, I will let you know if it's a realistic possibility. For each commissioned artwork, I will give you an estimated date as to when your piece will be completed.
